As mentioned above under the heading "Maggot stone history" (sorry, not yet available in English), W. SCHWARZ found the most conspicuous maggot stone ever seen at the type locality of Scolecopteris in 2001. This very special specimen contains about 100.000 pinnules, which are the smallest subdivisions of the large tree fern fronds. Its aspect may serve as the most evident explanation of the term "maggot stone".
